DIATOMACEOUS EARTH
Diatomaceous earth is made from the fossilised remains of tiny, aquatic organisms called diatoms. Their skeletons are made of a natural substance called silica. Silica is chemically inert and the skeletons lock together leaving a network of fine holes, a type of honeycomb-like structure, making it a good filter medium.
Diatomaceous earth, is a natural and tasteless mineral which naturally filters out impurities that cause beer to have a cloudy look with unappealing floaters. Diatomaceous Earth is used in combination with paper filters because of its ability to remove fine particles from beer and wine without affecting the color, flavour or body.
